Life can be uphill if you are a fat woman.

I Am A Fat Woman

Now, if you are still reading this post, you know that these two characteristics are loaded with social and economic disadvantages. Bigotry towards fat people goes unnoticed, because fatness is unacceptable; everyone knows that.  Fatness is preventable and thinness is achieved by doing all the right things.  If only the fat people would do the right things, they would be thin. So obvious.

If you are a fat woman yourself, you likely have had times where you feel apologetic for your fatness.  You feel like you need to explain why you have a carton of premium ice cream in your shopping cart, why you did not choose the salad, why you are eating at all.  You fault yourself for taking up too much space on the bus, for making others push their chairs in so that you can make your way to your seat at the table.

This blog is about fatness. Let’s stop apologizing for our fatness.  Let’s start expecting more: respect, equality, pay equity, and practical things, like high performance outdoor clothing in sizes larger than 2X.
